The Goulart Winery is a partnership between Mauricio Parodi and Erika Goulart. Mauricio Parodi is one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished agronomist in Mendoza and Erika Goulart, whose grandfather lead the overthrow of the Brazilian government in the 1932 Constitutional Revolution. Erika is a successful entrepreneur who with the help of Mauricio resurrected her grandfathers Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Mendoza that were originally planted in 1915. It took six years to rehabilitate the vineyards back to the point of perfect balance that is necessary to produce high quality wine and after the enlightened hiring of Luis Barrund all the pieces were in place for a world-class winery. Wine Tasting at Westmoreland County Courthouse
Westmoreland Community Action will be hosting its Eleventh Annual Wine Tasting Event on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in downtown Greensburg. Events at Your PLCB Store! Really?

Did you know that you could have the chance to sample wine and spirits or even meet a celebrity at your PLCB store? To find out if any events are slated for your favorite store you must first find your stores ID number by visiting www.finewineandgoodspirits.com and using the store locator feature to identify the 4 digit number assigned to that store. Position the cursor over the Promotions tab, then point at the Events tab at the far right end of the drop down menu, lastly click on the In-Store Events. Enter your store ID number into the box marked Store then click Search and a directory of all the events scheduled for that store will appear with a description of each that can be expanded for more information when clicked.
In a totally unrelated matter I stopped at the Ripepi Winery last week and saw that picking had begun but I also noticed that there was a plentiful supply of fruit left to be harvested. I find that standing in a vineyard and seeing the ripe grapes hanging from the vines a truly awe-inspiring sight.

Seven Springs Wine & Food Festival

The 20th Annual Seven Springs Wine & Food Festival will be held on the 25th & 26th of August. Wine-tasting will be offered by 30 Pennsylvania wineries and there will also be seminars and musical entertainment. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. You must be at least 21 years old to attend this event and children, minors and pets are not permitted on the festival grounds. Tickets are $36 for Saturday and $26 for Sunday and can be purchased online or at the event. This celebration of Pennsylvania food and wine is being held at Seven Springs Mountain Resort 777 Waterwheel Dr, Seven Springs, PA. 800-452-2223

Free Broken Bottle Replacement
English: A colorful bottle (Photo credit: Wikipedia)I recently discovered an unbelievable policy that the Pennsylvania LCB (Liquor Control Board) stores offer to their customers. The unwritten policy is to replace any unopened bottle of liquor or wine that a customer breaks as long as they return it with proof that the bottle was sealed when it was broken. I would have to admit that returning a bag full of shattered glass to a store for a replacement when it was my fault strikes me as strange but rules are rules. Imagine walking in with what is left of a bottle of $7000 1992 Screaming Eagle Cabernet and asking for another one for free. It is worth a try and Good Luck.

Saturday Night Jive for a Cause

The Vineyard at Hershey will be hosting “Saturday Night Jive for a Cause” on July 14, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. The event will feature an open air concert by Not Quite Einstein. Come and enjoy music under the stars along with a bonfire, roasted corn, s’mores and the handcrafted wines of The Vineyard at Hershey. Pack a picnic dinner and bring your blanket or chair then join some friends for a summer evening of fun.
Tickets to the fundraiser are $20.00 each and can be purchased at The Vineyard at Hershey website. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Big 33 Scholarship Foundation. The Big 33 Scholarship Foundation provides academic scholarships for students throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. There will also be a live auction featuring some great experiences for you to bid on as well as a bottle of The Vineyard at Hershey’s own wine that has been autographed by Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlisberger.
